Private (1:1) Corrective Exercise Sessions

Movement is the essence of life. And our bodies were designed to move. 

Corrective Exercise is a technique that leverages an understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics to address and fix movement compensations and imbalances to improve the overall quality of movement during workouts and in everyday life.

I focus my corrective exercise methods mainly around using Pilates Equipment (aka Apparatus), although I have training in many exercise modalities and some of those are also incorporated into our sessions.

The Pilates method is functional fitness training that brings a new level of strength that begins on the inside and works from the core out to the periphery. It's a proven system to change the way your body moves and functions, helping every aspect of your life. Working on the equipment (tower, stability chair, reformer, barrel) allows for individualized workouts created just for you and your abilities.

The focus is on building overall strength, coordination, balance, flexibility, and core stability to help you reach your goals. Homework exercises will be given to enhance what we do at the studio.

Why Pilates?

Build your body inside and out, gaining balanced strength, becoming long and lean, correcting poor posture and movement patterns, reducing chronic pain, and helps prevent future injuries. 

Pilates equipment (called apparatus) was created and designed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates (1883 - 1967). He spent his life studying the body's healthy movement patterns, first in Germany and later in New York, USA, developing a system called Contrology.  His method became popular in the 1920s in New York and many clients came to him to help heal their imbalances and injuries.

With the contemporary Pilates method physiotherapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals continue to use current exercise science to refine and expand the exercises into amazingly effective pre-habilitation and re-habilitation movements working the entire muscular system of the body, emphasizing the "powerhouse" muscles (abdominals, spinal erectors, low back, gluteals, adductors, abductors, and hip flexors).

Pilates Life Studio

uses Merrithew (STOTT) Pilates reformers, vertical frames (attached towers), split pedal stability chairs, jumpboards and cardio tramps. Our Arc Barrels are Balanced Body.

Merrithew is a Canadian company based out of Toronto, Ontario and they are known for producing equipment that is state of the art, super smooth, of the highest quality, and is easy and safe to use. All equipment is made in Canada.

Inner Strength Training (IST)

Your workouts are tailored to meet your needs, abilities, and goals using my Inner Strength Training (IST) method (explanation of IST below). As a ACE-certified personal trainer, NASM-certified corrective exercise specialist, and certified Pilates instructor with multiple trainings in both classical and contemporary methods you are in the very best hands.

What makes the Inner Strength Training (IST) method different from other training programs?

IST is about honouring where your body is at and giving it what it needs - a balanced health regime.  It's about functional movement training, building our muscles with effective movement patterns. It’s about creating a strong and balanced body from the inside out. Working our supporting intrinsic muscles helps stabilize the body's foundation, so that our extrinsic muscles (the surface “power” muscles) can do their job properly and purposefully.  The IST method works both your intrinsic and extrinsic muscles for a whole body approach to strength and cardio training. While reaching your desired weight is important if that is your goal, IST is challenging, however, is it not about arduously struggling to obtain an impossibly perfect body shape. It’s about creating strong, supported, balanced bodies that can function and move with freedom and ease.

Private (1:1) Corrective Exercise Pricing

During private sessions you get your trainer's full attention to maintain proper form and to flow at a pace appropriate for your abilities. You receive a personalized training program adapted to your needs and goals. You also receive homework exercise you can practice at home. Private sessions are ideal for maximizing the effectiveness of your workout and is definitely the best and fastest way to increase your performance.

I work closely with your health team (chiropractors, massage therapists, and physiotherapists) to help with chronic pain and injuries.

First session includes a thorough movement assessment to investigate your unique movement patterns, plus an introductory workout on all pieces of equipment.

I do not sell individual appointments, packages of 4 and 8 sessions are available because from my experience a minimum of 4-8 sessions are needed to see the beginning benefits of consistent Pilates movement.
